 Light within the Dark.

Taieri shuffled through some papers that were splayed across his desk in the candle light. After flipping through the same sheets about four times, he swore under his breath. He had forgotten the attendance sheet, again. He didn't want to have to go all the way back up to his office in the History room. He'd wing it, he decided. If he had only known all the names of the kids in his class, it wouldn't matter, but he just couldn't manage to do that, yet. Some he knew. The ones who he had taught before. He had trouble with the new faces, though. Scribbling on the top of one of the sheets, he decided that he was going to make a new effort to learn all the names. He knew how many students he taught, but that's it.

Rearranging the papers one last time, he got to his feet and walked over to the closet located in the back of the dimly lit room. The door opened with a rather wailing creak. He took a step in, and grabbed some of the supplies he was going to need for class. Setting the supplies on a side table, he made a mental note that he was teaching Death first. And then Darkness this afternoon.

Death was a challenging course to teach, as it is basically teaching a student how to inflict pain on something, and how to absorb that same pain, since that's the way the magic works. Luckily the Life course is taught at the same time, so that if anything drastic happened, there would be help quite close by. He smiled at the memory of one of his first Death classes. He was supposed to attack the Professor, but only cause a little pain. Since he was only new at it, though, he wasn't very good, and ended up casting stronger than he wanted. The professor wasn't affected too much, since he was quite a big guy. But Taieri himself, had nearly knocked himself unconcious. He spent the next day and a half resting in the Infirmary.

He moved a table out of the way and then went back to his desk where he reclined in his chair, with he feet up. While he waited for class to begin, he pulled out a cigarette and lit it. Pulling a long drag, he sighed and slowly exhaled. It was a terrible habit, he knew. He also knew it was against school policies to smoke indoors, especially in the Dungeon, where there was no where for the Smoke to escape. While pulling another drag, he thought guiltily of this, and just as he did the bell went. He scrambled to put the cigarette out and to disperse the smoke, as students would be arriving rather soon, and he couldn't be caught smoking. Especially by his students. He was a rather tough teacher, as in he was strict, but not mean. He tossed the butt into one of his desk drawers ( in which there were several others ), and got up from his seat. Walking over to the front of his desk, he leaned against it, and pocketed his hands.

A few students came in, laughing and joking. The looked, and greeted him. He smiled and nodded as they found a place to sit. While they sat and chattered on, he let his mind wander, whilst he waited for the other members of the class. Until, that is, one of the students who came in, a girl, asked him something. He fell back to reality and entered their comversation, making small talk, as other students began to enter.

Nami came down the stairs of her dungeon using her light magic to help her see so she wouldn't fall down the stairs and injure herself on her first day. The room smelled a tad smokey when she first arrived but she quickly became used to it. Nami was surprised at the upkeep of this room. The name dungeon made her envision dust and a skeleton or something but there was no skeleton she could see and only a bit of dust. The taste of the tea she had drunk earlier lingered pleasently in her mouth as she spotted who she assumed to be the teacher of this course. He stood behind his desk with his hands in hs pockets talking to a girl Nami had not yet met which wasn't too surprising. Saying hello the teacher with respect as she passed she found a seat in which to sit and began to talk with some of the other students while she waited for the class to start. Then she realized that she had forgotten her bag in her dorm room and let out a groan. She placed her head on her palm and rubbed her forehead.

Way to go... what a great way to start, forget all your stuff in your room!

She straightened up and decided she would just go through class without it. So she leaned back in her chair and wondered how the rest of her class would go.
